Zurgena
95kms from Almeria’s Capital, Almeria, and 283m above sea level, Zurgena lies in the lower basin of the Almanzora Valley, through which the Rio Almanzora flows, amongst fertile fields of orange, lemon and fruit trees. The river runs straight through the village splitting the old town from the new and there is a Mudejar style church that stands tall above the village houses. The town is clean and well looked after by its 2,081 inhabitants. The town is remarkably lively with excellent amenities, it has a medical centre, an English speaking pharmacy, primary school, supermarkets and other shops and a good range of tapas bars and restaurants. The popular coastal resorts of Vera, Garrucher and Mojacar are just a 30 minute drive away. Zurgena is planning to produce olive oil.
