The communidad of Valencia incorporates the three provinces of Castellon, Valencia and Alicante. The capital of the region is Valencia which is Spain’s third largest city and one of its liveliest. Situated on the Mediterranean Coast it has an important harbour with the port being at the front of the export market. Valencia is a vibrant and exciting city with a heavy mix of night life and culture and the city is steeped in history. In contrast to the Gothic buildings of the city centre, on the outskirts of the city there are the glass and steel buildings of the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences (Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències), which contains a science museum, IMAX cinema and oceanographic park all set amongst impressive fountains and gardens.
The country is chiefly mountainous, with a fertile coastal plain, on which most of the population is concentrated. The Mediterranean climate has helped to make Valencia the Garden of Spain. Irrigation and an intensive system of cultivation were started by the Moors. Citrus and other fruits, vegetables, cereals, olive oil, and wine are now produced. Many of these products (especially the famous Valencia oranges) are exported.
With an all year round average daytime temperature of close to 20 degrees centigrade, the Valencian region enjoys mild winters and warm summers, has wonderful blue flag sunny beaches of white sand along the coastline and miles and miles of orange and lemon groves.
Valencia is due to host the Americas Cup (the richest sporting event in the world) in 2007 and is fast becoming one of the most popular and exciting areas to live. The large amount of publicity that Valencia is currently enjoying in the run up to the Americas Cup, is forecast to have a huge impact on property prices in this area that is currently offering excellent value for money. Improvements of motorways and rail network, including a new high speed train to Madrid as well as expansion of Valencia airport are all an added bonus.
In the inland areas of the province, there are many beautiful residential villages offering peace and tranquillity – typically each town and village has its own healthcare and school facilities and communal swimming pool, and of course, Town Hall, Town Square (Plaza) and Church. Xativa, Lliria, Ontinyent, Sagunto to name just a few. There is an excellent Metro system that runs from many of the inland villages into the city making it a real attraction to live outside of the city and enjoy the best of both worlds.
